IKEA price adjustment: policy by country and how to claim

IKEA price adjustment rules by country: how many days you get, whether you need IKEA Family, what is excluded, how to claim, and how to spot the drop in time.

What IKEA price adjustment is

You buy a bookcase. Two weeks later the same bookcase is cheaper. In some countries IKEA will refund the difference, as long as you ask within a set number of days and the lower price is still on. IKEA calls this a price adjustment, or price protection.

It isn't a global rule. Each country's IKEA sets its own window, membership rules and exclusions, and some don't offer it at all.

Short version: in the US and Canada you can claim a price drop after purchase, and in the Philippines IKEA Family members can. In India and the Netherlands, IKEA says it doesn't adjust past purchases. Either way, you only get the money if you notice the drop while the lower price is still live.

This table is based on IKEA's own customer service pages, checked on 11 October 2026. Terms change, so open your country's page before you rely on it.

For Ireland, the UAE and Germany we couldn't find an official IKEA page on price adjustment. That doesn't prove there isn't a policy, so ask customer service before you buy.

What doesn't count

Where IKEA does adjust prices, the fine print matters. The most important rule is shared by the US, Canada and the Philippines: the lower price must still be live when you claim. Once a sale ends, so does your chance.

United States

  • Services are excluded. Only product purchases qualify.
  • You need the original receipt or order number.
  • Some events, such as kitchen or bathroom events, have extra conditions.

Canada

  • Services, food, As-is items, and custom countertops and wall panels are excluded.
  • The item must have the identical article number and be part of the IKEA Canada range.
  • It can't be combined with other offers or discounts on the same item.
  • Time-restricted and limited-quantity offers may be excluded. Several current Canadian offers say so in their terms.
  • If the lower price needs a minimum spend or IKEA Family, you have to meet that too.

Philippines

  • Food, services (delivery, assembly, installation, planning), Circular Hub and As-Is items, and IKEA for Business purchases are excluded.
  • One claim per purchase, and the item must match exactly: article number, size, colour and specifications.

United Kingdom

The UK page says IKEA doesn't match prices that changed under "New Lower Price". The 7-day refund only covers a Family offer you missed because your card wasn't scanned.

How to claim an IKEA price adjustment

  1. Check your country's page. Use the table above. Confirm the window and whether you needed IKEA Family on the original purchase.
  2. Confirm it's the same item. Match the article number, size and colour on your receipt to the product page.
  3. Screenshot the lower price. Capture the product page with the price and the date visible. If the sale ends while you're waiting in a queue or a chat, you have a record of what you saw.
  4. Find your proof of purchase. The receipt for a store purchase, or the order number for an online one. Keep it until the window closes.
  5. Claim while the sale is on. In the US and Canada, store purchases go to a store and online orders go to customer service. In the Philippines, it's a store's Customer Service counter.
IKEA staff decide whether a claim qualifies. The terms on your country's site are what count, not this guide.

The real problem: noticing the drop in time

IKEA doesn't tell you when something you bought gets cheaper. The policy only pays out if you find the lower price yourself, inside the window, while the sale is still running. Few people check a product page again once the sofa arrives.

A price tracker fixes that. Instead of tracking a product before you buy, keep tracking it after:

  • Add the product right after you buy it. Share it from the IKEA app or Chrome to Droplert, or paste the link. Tap the price once, then Track it.
  • Pick a daily check. Your window is measured in weeks, so once a day is a sensible balance. Some offers only last a day or two, so choose a faster schedule if you'd rather not risk missing one.
  • Set the target price to what you paid. Any drop below your price sends an alert, and you can claim the same day.
  • Remove it when the window closes. After 14, 30 or 90 days, depending on your country and membership, a drop no longer helps. That frees the slot for the next purchase.

Droplert reads the price shown on the page. It doesn't apply IKEA Family prices, doesn't know your country's policy, and doesn't file the claim for you. If a check fails, for example because the page changed, Droplert flags the product so you know to look.

Price history starts the day you add the product, so add it on the day you buy.

Tracking before you buy is a separate job. Our IKEA price tracker guide covers that. To tell a real sale from a marked-up one, see how to spot a fake sale with price history.

Questions

Does IKEA price match other stores?

Not in Australia, according to IKEA's Australian page. The US, Canada and Philippines policies cover a lower IKEA price on the same item, not a competitor's price.

I bought online. Can I still claim?

In the US and Canada, yes, through customer service. US members need to have been signed in to IKEA Family when they ordered. In the Philippines, claims are handled in store only.

The sale ended before I noticed. Can I still claim?

Not in the US, Canada or the Philippines. All three require the lower price to be current when you claim.

How many purchases can I watch for free?

Droplert's free plan tracks up to 5 products. An optional upgrade gives unlimited products. No account is needed, and your list stays on your phone. Android 10 and newer only.
